There’s emptiness in my heart that words can’t explain.
Every thought of your loss brings nothing but pain.
Everywhere that I look I see your presents in things
But there nothing to see only a memory it brings.
The tears come like rain from a thunder cloud burst,
But my mind thinks that this cannot be much worse.
I remember the day when first we met
You called Mom with a bark; she was caught in your net.
You came to our home with a bark from the store
You gave us your love and I hope we gave more.
When it was time for a walk you would jump with glee,
Then off we’d go Mom, you and me.
You’d run through the brush with your nose to the ground
Back and forth you would go and then all around.
The walks in the desert brought joy to your soul
And the critters you chased down into a hole
Drove you nuts because they escaped from your grasp,
Was lucky for them that you weren’t too fast.
You grew in our heart as a part of our life
And all that you did brought us joy and not strife.
I gain comfort knowing that we did our best
And you knew that we loved you and now you can rest.
